This is a rack-integrated EPS steering system. No hydraulic fluid or power steering pump. Electric motor provides variable steering assist based on vehicle speed: lighter steering at low speed, increased damping at high speed for driving stability.

Important: NSK Gen1(1S1909144P) and Gen2(180909144) hardware & firmware are NOT interchangeable. Wrong assembly will cause power assist failure and warning lamp on dashboard.
Torque Specifications

- Tie rod end nut:35~45 N·m

Replacement & Calibration Guide
- Lift vehicle, disconnect battery negative terminal, remove underbody cover.
- Disconnect steering column joint, tie rod ends and rack mounting bolts, remove old rack.
- Install 1S1909144P assembly, fasten bolts to torque specs.
- Reconnect wiring harness and battery. Use ODIS / VAS6154 enter module 44.
- Security login with code 20103, run guided functions: steering angle zero point calibration and end stop learning.
- Write steering assist curve, clear DTCs, perform static test and road test.
- Check steering feel, self-centering function, pull and abnormal noise.
Troubleshooting
- Heavy steering at standstill: motor damage, internal rack wear or firmware corruption
- Intermittent assist loss: 12V power failure, CAN bus error or PCB cold solder
- Clunk noise: damaged rubber boot, rack wear or excessive tie rod end play
- Steering warning light: read DTC from module44, mostly requires steering angle recalibration
